*it is normal for airtight zippers to be harder to open and close than regular and splash proof zippers because these zippers produce a much better and tighter seal that can stop water from coming inside even when dropped into the sea (it’s a feature, not a bug)

DryTide 28L airtight backpack comes with a removable internal pocket inside the main compartment. Internal pocket can be replaced with either padded laptop sleeve or waterproof laptop sleeve (both sold separately). First one offers shock protection for your laptop and the second one gives additional water protection (if you use your backpack to carry wet items). You can also just simply remove the pocket when you don’t need it.

Unlike our roll down top backpacks, the 28L Point Nemo backpack is closed like regular backpacks – with a zipper. When using it in or around water, make sure the zipper is fully closed. DryTide 28L Point Nemo backpack is an airtight backpack. You can fill it with air like a balloon, close the airtight zipper and the air will stay inside. This feature makes it fully waterproof and the top choice from DryTide when it comes to waterproofing. The Point Nemo backpack can withstand submersion, but we don’t recommend keeping it underwater for longer periods and at greater depths. Prolonged submersion and increased water pressure may cause water to seep in.

Even though this is a submersible backpack, we give no warranty on it’s waterproof capabilities and we do not recommend that you push the backpack underwater on purpose if you are carrying sensitive equipment. Please always test the backpack for possible holes, damaged zippers or dirt and debris on the zippers before going into the water!

Where does the backpack’s name come from? Point Nemo is the most remote place in the ocean. It is the spot on Earth farthest from any land. Point Nemo is located deep in the South Pacific, it’s so isolated that the closest humans are often astronauts orbiting above, not people on the ground. Surrounded by thousands of kilometers of open water, Point Nemo represents true isolation, raw nature, and total exposure to the elements.

• Avoid solvents and liquids like insect repellent, they don’t mix well with your airtight backpack fabric.
• Keep it away from extreme heat and sharp objects. Even though it’s made from tough, tearproof material, things like thorns or needles can still puncture it and compromise its waterproofing.
• If backpack gets dirty, rinse it with fresh water or hand-wash it with mild soap and then air-dry by hanging. Always rinse the backpack and zippers with fresh water after salt water use to avoid salt buildup on the zippers (check airtight zipper guide for more care tips). Avoid machine washing.
• You can use a tiny amount of DryTide zipper lubricant to help the zippers run smoother and give them some added protection.

Can the backpack be used as a carry-on when traveling by plane?

Yes, absolutely. The 28L Point Nemo airtight backpack is small enough for any airline. Backpack itself has no hard parts so it can be folded or squeezed if needed. This means that the size of the backpack depends on how much you fill it up.

How big is this waterproof backpack?

The size of the backpack is 30cm x 23cm x 48cm (W x L x H) or  11.8″ x 9.2″ x 18.9″ (W x L x H). This is not a roll down backpack so the size can not be regulated by rolling down the top. The 28L Point Nemo submersible backpack has enough room for your laptop, towel, some clothes and a toiletry bag at the same time.

It this a camera backpack?

If your main concern is to keep your camera gear dry then yes, this is a THE camera backpack. It is completely waterproof and even submersible. It will stop the water, humidity and sand from entering and will keep your photo gear dry even in the harshest conditions and in the water.

Backpack also has pockets, straps and lash points so you can attach extra gear to the outside of the backpack. It does however not have internal padding. We didn’t add internal padding because we also wanted the backpack to be used for carrying wet gear inside the backpack.

If you need padding then you can get a separate camera cube insert that you can put inside the backpack. Depending on how much photo/video equipment do you have, you can also check the DryTide 30L daypack that is a bit bigger than the 28L Point Nemo airtight backpack and can be more suitable if you carry more than one camera. The difference is more than 2L because you can regulate the size of the 30L with the roll down top.
