The forecast looked fine when you left. A few hours later, you’re caught in heavy rain, your backpack is sitting on a wet boat deck, or you’re heading back from the beach with wet gear inside. You still have your phone, camera, clothes and other things you need to keep dry.
This is where a waterproof backpack makes a difference. Instead of checking the weather or worrying about where to put your gear, you can keep moving. The 30L size gives you enough room for a full day out, while the waterproof construction protects what you carry when rain, splashes and wet conditions become part of the journey.
WHY WE MADE IT
DryTide started with a simple problem. Regular backpacks are comfortable and practical, but they are not built to keep your gear dry when rain, spray or wet conditions become part of the journey. Dry bags solve the waterproofing problem, but they are not as easy to organise or comfortable to carry as a proper backpack.
We wanted to combine the two. A backpack that protects your belongings from water while still giving you the pockets, carrying comfort and everyday usability you expect from a normal backpack.
We also wanted it to look like a backpack, not a typical waterproof bag. The understated design means you can take it to the beach, onto a boat or along a wet trail, but it does not look out of place when you are travelling through a city, commuting to work or heading to a café afterwards.
The 30L size became the all-around option in the range. It gives you more room than the 18L backpack for longer days and larger loads, while remaining more compact than the 50L travel backpack.
The result is a straightforward idea: the usability of a regular backpack with the waterproof protection of a dry bag.
IS THIS THE RIGHT BACKPACK FOR YOU?
GREAT CHOICE IF
- You want one waterproof backpack for a wide range of situations. The 30L size works well for day trips, travel and outdoor adventures without being built around just one type of use.
- You regularly carry more than everyday essentials. 30 litres gives you room for extra clothes, food, electronics, camera gear or other equipment you may need during a full day out.
- You want proper waterproof protection without a typical dry bag design. The backpack looks at home in the city as well as around water, while welded construction keeps your belongings protected from rain and splashes when properly closed.
- You value organisation and carrying comfort. Multiple pockets, padded shoulder straps, a padded back panel and a removable padded hip belt make it practical when you are carrying your gear for longer periods.
- You want a versatile backpack rather than a specialist model. If your trips change from one weekend to the next, the 30L is designed to cover a broad range of needs.
CONSIDER A DIFFERENT BACKPACK IF
- You mainly want a smaller, lighter backpack for everyday essentials. The 18L Waterproof Backpack may be a better fit if compact size is your priority.
- You want the highest level of waterproof protection and fast access. The 28L Point Nemo Airtight Backpack uses an airtight waterproof zipper and is designed for situations where maximum waterproof protection is the priority.
- You regularly carry enough gear for multi-day trips. The 50L Waterproof Travel Backpack gives you more space for longer journeys and larger loads.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS
The 30L backpack protects the things you rely on, from spare clothes and electronics to food and camera gear. It also helps keep sand and dust away from your belongings when you are at the beach, on a dusty trail or travelling. You do not need to put your important items into separate plastic bags or smaller dry bags every time the weather changes.
✓ Durable 100% waterproof material
✓ Fully welded seams with no stitch holes
✓ Waterproof zippers for external pockets
✓ Roll top closure for the waterproof main compartment
Pack extra clothes, food, electronics, camera gear and other essentials for a full day out. The 30L capacity gives you noticeably more room than the 18L model while keeping the backpack suitable for everyday use.
✓ 30L main compartment
✓ Room for larger loads and extra gear
✓ Slim profile for practical everyday carrying
A waterproof backpack does not need to work like a simple dry bag. You can keep smaller items separate while still having one large main compartment for clothing and larger gear.
✓ Small and large waterproof external pockets
✓ Removable internal pocket with an additional mesh pocket
✓ Water bottle pocket
✓ External attachment points for additional gear
The 30L is made for days when you are carrying more than just a few essentials. Padded contact points and an adjustable carrying system help make longer walks and days of travel more comfortable.
✓ Padded shoulder straps and back panel
✓ Adjustable sternum strap with safety whistle
✓ Removable padded hip belt
The streamlined design works just as well around water and outdoors as it does in the city, on your commute or while travelling. The understated colour and simple design make it easy to use throughout the day, without needing a separate backpack for different situations.
✓ Slim, streamlined shape
✓ Subtle colour
✓ Regular backpack design with waterproof construction
The roll top lets you change the size of the main compartment depending on how much you pack. Roll it down more when carrying less or leave it higher when you need more space. You can also choose how to fasten the rolled top depending on the conditions.
How we do it:
✓ Roll the top more or less to adjust the backpack's size
✓ Fasten the rolled top at the sides for a practical closure
✓ Fasten the ends together at the top for better waterproof protection
After a day around water, you may have a wet towel, swimwear or other gear that you do not want dripping everywhere. If you have lots of wet gear, use the main compartment for it and the large external pocket for dry clothes, or reverse the setup depending on what you are carrying.
✓ Use the waterproof main compartment for wet or dry gear
✓ Large external pocket fits bulky items such as a beach towel
✓ Choose which compartment to use for wet or dry belongings depending on your needs
✓ Both sleeves attach to the inside of the backpack
✓ Padded sleeve adds shock protection
✓ Slim waterproof sleeve adds an extra waterproof layer
If you drop the backpack overboard or it ends up in the water, it can float instead of immediately sinking. This gives you more time to recover it and can help prevent your gear from being lost immediately below the surface.
✓ Waterproof construction helps keep water out
✓ Roll top traps air when properly closed
✓ Fasten the ends of the rolled top together at the top for better waterproof protection

WHICH DRYTIDE BACKPACK IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
Every DryTide backpack is built to keep your gear dry. The right choice depends on where your adventures take you.
SEE IT IN ACTION
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is the DryTide 30L Waterproof Backpack really waterproof?
Yes. The backpack is made from 100% waterproof fabric with fully welded seams, and the roll top closure creates a waterproof seal when closed correctly. It protects your gear from rain, splashes and spray, including during activities such as kayaking, paddle boarding and boating.
For maximum waterproof protection, roll the top down tightly at least three times and close the buckles correctly. The backpack is not intended for prolonged underwater use, but it can float on the water’s surface indefinitely when properly closed and with sufficient air trapped inside.
Can I use the 30L Waterproof Backpack as carry-on luggage?
The backpack has a flexible construction and no rigid internal frame, which makes it suitable for use as carry-on luggage with many airlines. However, airline size and weight limits vary, so always check the current requirements of your airline before travelling.
The amount you pack also affects the final size of the backpack.
Will my laptop fit in the 30L Waterproof Backpack?
Yes. The 30L backpack is large enough to carry laptops of virtually any size. However, it does not have a dedicated laptop compartment or built-in padding.
If you want extra laptop protection, you can add a DryTide laptop sleeve, sold separately. There are two options:
- DryTide Padded Laptop Sleeve 360° – adds shock and impact protection and is the better choice when you are carrying dry gear.
- DryTide Waterproof Laptop Sleeve – a slimmer option that adds an extra waterproof layer around your laptop and is especially useful when carrying wet or damp gear in the backpack.
Both sleeves attach to the inside of the backpack and are designed to fit DryTide backpacks.
Is the 30L backpack comfortable to wear all day?
Yes. The 30L is comfortable to carry for full days, with padded adjustable shoulder straps, a padded back panel, an adjustable sternum strap and a removable padded hip belt that help distribute the load.
It is designed as a versatile waterproof backpack for travel, outdoor adventures and everyday use, rather than as a dedicated hiking backpack. If your priority is maximum carrying comfort on long hikes with heavy loads, a purpose-built hiking backpack may be more comfortable.
How much can the 30L Waterproof Backpack actually hold?
The 30L capacity gives you plenty of room for a full day out. For example, you can pack a laptop in a sleeve, a beach towel, a sweatshirt, a small toiletry bag, a few T-shirts, a camera, snacks and other small essentials.
If you are taking it on a surf trip, it can also fit two thick winter wetsuits with some extra room to spare.
The roll top also lets you adjust the packed volume depending on how much you carry. It gives you more space than the 18L while remaining more compact than the 50L Waterproof Travel Backpack.
How do I clean the 30L Waterproof Backpack?
Rinse it with fresh water and use mild soap if needed. Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents, and keep the backpack away from extreme heat and sharp objects.
What should I do after using the backpack in saltwater?
Rinse the backpack with fresh water after using it in the sea. Pay particular attention to the zippers, as salt deposits can build up and affect their operation. Allow the backpack to dry before storing it.
What's the difference between the 30L Waterproof Backpack and the Point Nemo?
The 30L Waterproof Backpack is designed for versatility, with adjustable capacity and a roll top closure. It is well suited to travel, hiking, beach days, paddle boarding and everyday adventures.
The 28L Point Nemo is designed for situations where maximum waterproof protection and quick access through an airtight zipper are the main priorities. Both have their place in the DryTide range.
Are the waterproof zippers harder to open?
Yes. Waterproof zippers are tighter than regular zippers because the extra pressure helps create a waterproof seal. They can feel especially stiff when the backpack is new, but they usually become easier to operate after the first few uses.
If a zipper feels harder to open than it should, a small amount of silicone-based zipper lubricant can help it run more smoothly. Do not use oil-based lubricants, as they can attract dirt.
For more information, see our guide – Stuck Waterproof Zipper: Why It Happens and How to Fix It.
Can I use the 30L Waterproof Backpack as a camera or photo backpack?
Yes. The 30L backpack has enough space to carry a camera, lenses and other photography gear, and the waterproof construction helps protect your equipment from rain and water.
The backpack does not have built-in padding or camera-specific compartments, so we recommend using padded camera cubes or inserts inside the backpack to protect your equipment from knocks and impacts.
Is the inside of the 30L backpack padded?
No. The inside of the backpack is intentionally not padded.
The 30L is designed to carry both dry and wet gear, such as clothes, towels or swimwear. Internal padding would absorb water and take longer to dry, so we keep the main compartment unpadded. If you need extra protection for a laptop, camera or other fragile gear, you can add your own padded sleeve or protective insert.
What warranty does DryTide offer?
DryTide products come with a 1 Year Limited Warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use.

Julian, Hawaii –
Got my DryTide 30L daypack in the mail a few weeks back and I finally got the chance to try it out. I absolutely love it!
Dave W –
Took my DryTide 30L Waterproof daypack on a 7 day scuba diving trip to Honduras this past week…and I couldn’t be more pleased…it is my new favorite piece of gear. For air travel, I used the 30L daypack in place of my usual carry-on and each day diving, I used the 30L daypack to keep my incidentals and “dry gear” dry. The pack worked like a champ all week! For me, in addition to it being “right-sized” for use on a dive boat (my primary use case) where it needs to fit easily under the benches, the multiple and differently sized pockets are the KEY feature. Most diving drybags are just one giant pocket where all your gear (large or small) gets jumbled up into one big wad…which requires you to open the main pocket to get your sunglasses etc…meanwhile dripping water on the other gear. Not so with the DryTide 30L. Using the pockets on the outside allowed me to segregate my smaller and/or my most often used gear from the main compartment which had other items I wanted to ensure stayed dry. Which they did…all week. Build quality is fantastic; elastic strap retainers are a nice detail to keep things stowed properly…my only very minor quibble is the external water bottle holder is kind of wimpy and short. That aside, I am completely pleased with how this pack performed and will be recommending it to all of my dive partners and students…Well Done!

I love this backpack, I use it when I go surfing, also take it when I go stand up padling and everytime I go to the beach. Looks good enough to take anywhere.

Freshly unboxed 30l backpack, first impressions:
– Overall great, good buckle quality, good seams, etc.
– The external bottle pocket is extremely disappointing. It has fixed seams, no elasticity whatsoever — any attempt to put a slightly bigger bottle would result in breaking the seams. Really lame design, especially considering the price.
Taja –
Well designed and well built. Definitely keep things dry in a storm, kayaking, boating, hiking.. Highly recommended and would buy it again.
gabrielgsa2 –
The backpack is extremely solid, looks great, all the materials feel like they ll last forever. The design is a 10/10. Customer support is fantastic, emails are replied super fast. The quality here surpasses any big brands i had. This for me is the example of how small business deliver better than big names out there.

Impressive would be an understatement. I have been putting my 30l into the ringer everyday since I received it, backpacking in the wild under heavy rain, wind, you name it, and, it outperformed any of my other 4 waterproof backpacks.
I wish only I could have bought it before all the others.
Keeping an eye out for the 50lt!
Uros –
Keeps things dry and looks good.

I use the backpack for commuting to work by bike, but also for short trips of about 2-3 days. It has the perfekt size for both! Also the material seems undamageable.
I was looking for a waterproof backpack for a very long time and let me tell you: this is the one!

This and the smaller one (18L) are my go-to travel luggage if I’m going without a suitcase.
